Look on the Internet for writing sites for children.

I’ve found a few that look pretty promising. Some seem pretty selective about what they publish, and others seem to publish almost everything. But, at any rate, your kids will get to see other children’s writing—and writing that is published! Plus, with any luck, your kids will want to submit their writing also.

These are the ones I’ve found. I’m sure there are lots more:

www.stonesoup.com This is the Internet site for the excellent children’s magazine Stone Soup. It’s filled with high-quality children’s writing, and has a page with guidelines for submissions.

www.kidstory.com This site is called Kids Writing for Kids, and children can submit poetry or stories, or write a story on-line in a box and submit it right then. It looks to me like they publish almost everything, so this is the site for young writers who need a boost to their self-confidence.

www.realkids.com/club.htm This is the Young Writers Clubhouse site. It offers advice on how to write, how to get published, and even has a young writer’s critique group. This looks like a great site for children who have already had some success with writing.
